SAINTS SOAR PAST NIGHTHAWKS

The Women's Tennis Team picked up a 9-0 non-conference win over Newbury College on Friday night. All of Emmanuel's singles wins came in straight sets. Senior Anna Marie Podnecky (Bridgewater Corners, VT) won at #1 singles, 6-1 and 6-1. Junior Rachel Strauss (Westwood, MA) won at 2nd singles, 6-0 and 6-0. Sophomore Caitlin Kustes (Corfu, NY) won at 3rd singles, 6-0 and 6-2. Freshman Catherine Dunphy (Duxbury, MA) was the 4th singles winner, 6-3 and 6-1. Senior Megan Barrows (West Springfield, MA) won at #5 singles, 6-0 and 6-1. Senior Katie Silva (Lakeville, MA) picked up a default victory at 6th singles. In doubles action, Barrows and Caitrin Dunn (Toms River, NJ) notched an 8-4 win, while senior Jamie Kenyon (Ware, MA) and freshman Taylor Kelly (Poughkeepsie, NY) shut out their opponents, 8-0. Silva and Dunphy recorded a default win at 3rd doubles. The Saints improved to 5-4 on the season and remain 1-3 in the GNAC. Monday's match with Albertus Magnus College was postponed due to the weather. Emmanuel will be back in action on Thursday (10/11) when the Saints travel to Rhode Island College for a 4:00 pm start.
