RAMS DOWN SAINTS IN CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS

The Women's Tennis Team was defeated by top-seeded Suffolk University on Saturday in the semifinal round of the GNAC Tournament. The Saints fell to the Rams, 8-1. Emmanuel lost all six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches. The Saints' lone win came at 3rd doubles, when senior Megan Barrows (West Springfield, MA) and sophomore Caitrin Dunn (Toms River, NJ) defeated their opponents, 8-2. TENNIS TEAM UPSETS EMERSON; SAINTS ADVANCE TO GNAC SEMIFINALS

The 5th seeded Emmanuel Women's Tennis Team upset the 4th seeded Lions of Emerson College, 5-4, in last night's GNAC quarterfinal match. The Saints traveled to Weymouth, MA to take on Emerson on the indoor courts at the Weymouth Club. Emmanuel won 3 of the 6 singles matches and 2 of the 3 doubles matches to take the win. The deciding match fell on the shoulders of senior captain Jamie Kenyon (Ware, MA) and sophomore Nory Hayes (Newport, RI) as they battled for the victory at 2nd doubles. All other matches were complete and the team score was knotted at 4-4. Kenyon and Hayes trailed, 7-2, but came back to win six-straight games to take an 8-7 lead. Emerson won the next game and tied the score at 8-8, but Kenyon and Hayes outlasted the Lions and won in a tiebreaker to give Emmanuel the 5-4 win. read more

TENNIS TEAM SPLITS IN WEEKEND MATCHES

The Women's Tennis Team split games this weekend, falling to Johnson & Wales University on Saturday and defeating Albertus Magnus College on Sunday. The Saints were defeated by the host Wildcats, 7-2, but bounced back to shutout the visiting Falcons, 9-0, on Sunday. In Sunday's match, senior Anna Marie Podnecky (Bridgewater Corners, VT) recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win at 1st singles. Junior Rachel Strauss (Westwood, MA) picked up the win at 2nd singles. Freshman Catherine Dunphy (Duxbury, MA) got the straight-set win at 3rd singles. Senior Megan Barrows (West Springfield, MA) notched a 6-1, 6-4 win at 4th singles, while sophomore Nory Hayes (Newport, RI) and freshman Taylor Kelly (Poughkeepsie, NY) both shut out their opponents, 6-0 and 6-0, at 5th and 6th singles, respectively. read more
